| Financial Support | | | | Graduate students may receive support through national fellowships (e.g. National Science Foundation), University Fellowships, department fellowships, research assistantships, and teaching assistantships.
The fellowships are highly competitive; thus, only those students with high GRE scores, high GPAs, and research experience will compete favorably for these awards. We encourage early fall inquiries to maximize your opportunities for the national fellowships.
To be considered for the highly competitive University and department fellowships and also the limited number of research and teaching assistantships, application documents must be received by January 10 for Fall Semester entry.
The availability of research and teaching assistantships fluctuates annually. You must be accepted into the Graduate School to be considered for an assistantship. Departmental assistantships and fellowships consist of a stipend (~$18,000 per year), paid tuition, and health insurance benefits. University fellowships generally come with a stipend of about $21,000, paid tuition, and health insurance benefits.
