In Recognition of Our Achievements
In Recognition of Our Achievements

In recognition of its documented excellence, the Department was honored and recognized by the University Board of Regents. Three buildings were named after Minnesota Plant Pathologists: Borlaug Hall (Norman. Borlaug, 1942 PhD & 1970 Nobel Peace Prize Recipient), Stakman Hall (E.C. Stakman, former Head, 1940-1953) and Kaufert Laboratories (Frank Kaufert, 1935 PhD, former Dean of the College of Forestry). In an unprecedented move, a fourth building, formerly known as the Plant Science Building, was officially renamed as the "Christensen Laboratory" after two prominent, former Department faculty members, Jonas J. Christensen (former Department Head, 1953-1961) and Clyde M. Christensen (Regents Professor 1976). Although these two distinguished individuals shared a common last name, they were not related.
