Research Focus
Root diseases of soybean can have a substantial impact on yield. Multiple fungi have been found associated with soybean roots and some are recognized as important root pathogens of soybean. However, information regarding the distribution of some of these fungi in Minnesota, etiology, and how they may interact in colonizing soybean roots is limited; thus, their importance may not be fully realized. My research involves the characterization of fungi capable of causing root rot on soybean and their potential interactions. In addition, my research involves the identification of factors that may influence the development of root rot, as well as the development of molecular assays to be used for rapid and sensitive detection of soybean pathogens from plant tissue and soil.
