Research Focus

Plant diseases are important in reducing potential agricultural crop yields.  Methods of reducing yield losses are more critical than ever before because of increasing global demands for agricultural commodities.  Soybeans are a major commodity and one of the most important crops grown in Minnesota.  Recent discovery of soybean sudden death syndrome (SDS) throughout southern Minnesota has raised concerns about potential yield losses from this disease. My interests lie in the complex relationships among microorganisms and plants, which is why I decided to study plant pathology.  I have not written my thesis proposal yet, but I hope to focus on understanding more about SDS in Minnesota, as related to microbial ecology or cultivar resistance.
