Congratulations to the 2020 Walter H. Judd International Graduate; Professional Fellowship
Recipients! The Walter H. Judd International Graduate; Professional Fellowships are highly
competitive awards designed to support the continued internationalization of the University of
Minnesota by providing critical assistance to students enrolled in master’s and professional
degree programs, and to increase opportunities for students to study, undertake internships, and
conduct research projects abroad. Funding for the fellowship is provided by a generous gift from
the Walter H. Judd Fund of The Minneapolis Foundation and additional funds from the Global
Programs and Strategy Alliance, with support from individual donors. A primary goal of the
fellowship is to increase exposure to other cultures. Congratulations to 2020 awardee, Savana
Lipps (Plant Pathology M.S. Student, CFANS), who will be conducting research on bacterial leaf
streak and bacterial leaf blight diseases of rice in the Host Plant Resistance department at the
International Rice Research Institute in Los Banos, Philippines in April 2021. Congratulations to
2020 awardee, Yeidymar Sierra Moya (Plant Pathology M.S. Student, CFANS), who will pursue
an internship with USDA-APHIS PPQ in Puerto Rico collecting data to help restrict, identify and
mitigate invasive diseases and pests in Fall 2020. Congratulations to all other Walter H. Judd
Fellows housed in other colleges as well!
