Haarith Receives Two Awards

May 31, 2017
Congratulations to graduate student Deepak Haarith for receiving the Sigma Xi Drs. Charles and Dorothy Bird Award and a MnDrive Global Food Ventures Fellowship.

The Sigma Xi Drs. Charles and Dorothy Bird Award is instituted through the Sigma Xi UMN chapter in memorium of Drs. Bird, to students who have demonstrated research prowess through peer-reviewed publication, or for their thesis or for their work presented at any national and annual society meetings. This is awarded to two people every year and is a cash award of $1000.

MnDrive Global Food Ventures Fellowship is a joint fellowship awarded by the state and the University of Minnesota to 10 people each year. It aims to recognize novel and outstanding projects which aim at strengthening food security, bolstering the visions of UMN. The fellowship pays a stipend for one year, to each student and also provides with $1000 professional development. This fellowship also trains people to be world leaders in agricultural policy making and helps people with similar goals to network with each other, through several classes and workshops.
