The Mycological Society of America’s annual meeting was held in Minneapolis at the UMN campus. In addition to 3 days of symposia and presented papers, there were a number of socials and outreach programs. The fungal biologists from UMN sponsored a Minnesota alumni social where a special tribute and presentation of the “The Golden Mushroom Award” was given to emeritus professor Dave McLaughlin. An outreach activity at the new Bell Museum also took place where meeting participants got a chance to have the Bell Museum all to themselves. A special informative and interesting mixed-media display entitled “Pioneers and Progress in Rust Biology in Minnesota” was developed by Corby Kistler and set up at the Bell Museum. This display will also be exhibited in the Plant Pathology Land O' Lakes Center in the coming weeks. One of the "Pioneers" was E.C. Stakman and some of his notes and slides of urediniospores and aeciospores were shown so people could see spores from the actual specimens that he studied. Be sure to visit this display once it is in the Land O' Lakes Center (the location of the old Plant Pathology Library).
