Plant Disease Clinic Lab Update

September 30, 2019

The big thing this year has been the very wet summer they have had a huge number of oak issues that they have been seeing related to the high amounts of rain during the spring/summer season. Essentially testing oaks for oak wilt is always a big part of what the Plant Disease Clinic deals with this time of year, but the high abundance of Tubakia leaf spot, bur oak blight, oak anthracnose, and twig blights, has shown up more often due to all the rain, this has lead to a very high number of samples coming in from people concerned about the possibility of oak wilt. The Plant Disease Clinic held an oak wilt diagnostic workshop recently with the USDA Forest Service to show demonstrate some of the symptoms.
