John Dueck Plant Pathology Fellowship

Matthew HaasThis fellowship was established in honor of John Dueck to recognize full time graduate students enrolled in the Department of Plant Pathology.

2016 Recipient: Matthew Haas

Haas' graduate work focused on genetic characterization of resistance loci to two important diseases of barley: Spot blotch and Fusarium head blight (FHB). He utilized several advanced backcross populations created with wild barley accessions as source of donor alleles to map quantitative trait loci (QTLs) for resistance to FHB as well as a widely virulent isolate of spot blotch. Haas was awarded his Ph.D. in May and will continue his career as a post-doctoral researcher at IPK in Germany.
