Despite the ice on the streets outside, the warmth was tangible at Associate Professor Jim Kurle’s retirement party on the morning of January 11th. Plant Pathology and Agronomy colleagues past and present gathered in Borlaug Commons for coffee, donuts, and celebration of the positive impact Kurle had on the field, the community, and decades of students and mentees.
Though the celebration was informal, several shared their favorite memories of Kurle, and he gave a brief and meaningful speech about his experiences and the need to continue educating new generations on the value of plant pathology.
A number of department members also stood up and shared favorite memories with Jim.
