Research

My research focuses on brown stem rot in soybeans, and its causal agent Cadophora gregata. There are still many unknowns about cadophora and BSR, particularly regarding its life cycle and the variation in symptom severity between pathogen genotypes.

What is plant pathology to you? 

Plant pathology is the biology of plant disease. Really though we learn how plants work, and about the relationships they form with other organisms and the rest of the natural world. 

Why did you decide to attend graduate school at the University of Minnesota? Tell us about your path to Plant Pathology.

I have always had a strong interest in science, particularly plant biology. During undergrad I had a great experience working as an undergraduate lab tech for Dr. Malvick. After graduating in spring 2020 with no clear plan and a pandemic stricken job market, I was offered the opportunity to stay on as a graduate student.

What do you hope to accomplish in your time at the University of Minnesota, and what are your goals for the future?

I want to gain experience working in research, and I want to learn more about plants.

What are some of your favorite hobbies?

Outside of work I like caring for my numerous houseplants, biking, and exploring the city.
