Biography
I am a Biotechnology Engineer from Ecuador, and I recently completed my master’s degree in Applied Biosciences. During my graduate studies, I worked as a lab manager in a Molecular Virology laboratory at ESPOL University and also completed a research stay in Robert’s virology lab at the University of Minnesota.
My research interests focus on the intersection of plant virology, synthetic biology, and biotechnology. I am particularly fascinated by the engineering of viruses and microorganisms as tools for biocontrol and sustainable agricultural solutions. I have worked on the biological characterization of plant viruses, including the design of carlavirus-based viral constructs to explore their potential applications in crops such as papaya and dragon fruit. At UMN, I will be contributing to the development of biotechnological tools for pathogen detection and management, particularly addressing Aster Yellows Phytoplasma in garlic crops.
Outside the lab, I enjoy working out, exploring new places, and spending time in nature — especially hiking.
