PLPA at the State Fair 2022

While food on a stick and carnival rides are many attendees’ favorite parts of the State Fair, the Great Minnesota Get-Together continues to be beloved as a place for agricultural competition, sharing, and learning. From seed art to competitions for giant vegetables and perfect corn, agriculture-based fun at the fair is alive and well. UMN Plant Pathology is happy to be part of the tradition!

Outreach Coordinator Becca Hall went above and beyond expectations, creating an interactive quiz for fairgoers and providing both photos and physical samples for each disease in the quiz. Booth visitors were also given a cute pin with an image of a plant disease (and our social media handle), as well as free information about our department and Plant Disease Clinic.

Grad students were able to connect with fairgoers on a variety of topics, from sparking young attendees’ curiosity to answering questions about common garden plants. A variety of grad students attended, giving both local and international students the opportunity to experience the Fair as ambassadors to CFANS.

UMN Plant Pathology looks forward to seeing you at the fair next year!
