My research focuses on uncovering determinants of stem rust resistance in the model grass Brachypodium. I follow a reverse genetics approach to characterize the role of genes in Brachypodium that may mediate the defense responses against Puccinia graminis f.sp. tritici, the causal agent of stem rust. The aim of my project is to unravel molecular mechanisms that are pivotal for the plant to recognize the pathogen.
