American Phytopathological Society Meeting 2022

Plant Health is the annual meeting of the American Phytopathological Society (APS). This August, it took many members of our department from Saint Paul to Pittsburgh—faculty, staff, students, alumni and postdocs—to learn, present, share posters, network, and receive awards. It would be near-impossible to capture all the accomplishments of our team at this event, but here are some highlights:

Research Posters & Presentations

Many faculty, graduate students, and postdocs presented their research at the conference, whether as posters or oral presentations. We’re so proud of their hard work doing and presenting quality research for the improvement of plant health!

Poster presenters: Jake Botkin, Claudia Castell-Miller, Jim Kolmer, Brett Lane, Dean Malvick, Pablo Olivera, Rae Page, Sita Paudel, Keshav Sharma, José Solórzano

Oral presentations: Nick Greatens, Austin Lien

Award Winners

Congratulations to Pablo Olivera and Brian Steffenson, recipients of 2022 APS Awards!

Brian was named APS Fellow and Pablo was awarded the APS International Service Award.

UMN Social

Gophers know how to gather! Current department members met up with alumni and former faculty (including former department head Jim Bradeen!) for a fun get-together at the conference.

UMN current and former associates around a table at aps: Prathiba, Jim Bradeen, Ruth Dill-Macky, Andrew Sathoff, Rae Page, Dean Malvick, Nick Greatens, Becca Hall, Megan McCaghey

Thank you to attendees Ruth Dill-Macky and Becca Hall for capturing photos of the events.

We look forward to seeing what research and enthusiasm the department will bring to the 2023 conference in Denver. In the meantime, look around the halls of Stakman and Christensen Halls this fall for APS research posters on display.
